Our Story

Old Irving Brewing Co. opened its doors in late 2016 by Co-Founder Jeff Linnemeyer and Co-Founder and Head Brewer, Trevor Rose-Hamblin. Trevor and Jeff met in 2013 not long after Jeff had left the financial industry and while Trevor was working in fine dining as a GM and Chef. The appreciation of good food and beer was often the topic of discussion and soon thereafter a brewpub was in the works. With both Jeff and Trevor living in or near the Old Irving Park neighborhood, finding a space there was option number one. After finding the current space on Montrose Ave, we were off and running. Fast forward to 2024, we opened our production facility in the West Loop neighborhood to facilitate beer distribution efforts.

In 2019, we were fortunate enough to win a gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival for Beezer in the Hazy IPA category. Two years later in 2021, we won a silver medal at the Great American Beer Festival for Della in the German-Style Kölsch category. And in 2024, with another stroke of good fortune, we won a gold medal at the World Beer Cup for Beezer in the Hazy IPA category. We work hard to brew quality beers across many styles including hazy IPAs, lagers, fruited sours, adjunct stouts, and barrel-aged beers and proudly brew in Chicago, one of the best beer cities in the country.

Beer is our passion, but we take our food menu just as seriously. Our food menu has seen many iterations throughout the years, but one thing has remained constant, and that is using the best ingredients possible from local farms and purveyors. Many of our menu items are prepared on our wood-fire grill powered with cherry and mesquite wood. The high heat and woodsmoke imparts a delicious smoky flavor that pairs well with beer.

The combination of our tasty food menu, high-quality craft beers, a creative cocktail program, and an extensive bourbon/whiskey list, has landed OIB on the USA Today 10Best Best Brewpub in the US list in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. We are proud of what we have accomplished thus far but strive every day to keep improving. And none of this happens without our amazing, hard-working team. They are the key to any of our successes.

Jeff Linnemeyer


Jeff is the “numbers guy” and self-proclaimed “head beer taster”. Jeff brings years of business experience and knowledge specifically in the financial industry where he spent two decades both on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange floor and off the floor trading electronically. Jeff has lived in Chicago for 30+ years but his roots lie in Mexico, Missouri, a small town outside of St. Louis. Jeff was a Division II college basketball player at Truman State University, is an unabashed Dave Matthews Band fan, Kansas City Chiefs fan, and really likes eating and talking about chicken wings.

Trevor Rose-Hamblin

Co-Founder, Head Brewer

Trevor is “the man behind the beer”. Trevor has brewed beer for over 20 years and has a unique brewing background, having not only graduated from Kendall College of Culinary Arts, but worked for years as a Chef and GM in some of Chicago’s top restaurants. Before opening OIB with Jeff, Trevor collaborated with some of the top Chicago breweries and friends of OIB including Pipeworks Brewing, Flossmoor Station Brewing, Dryhop Brewers as well as a three-month internship with BrewDog in Scotland. Trevor is a metal head and has unfettered impersonation skills.
